Wine Review: 2005 La Perla Del Priorat Noster Inicial

4th October 2011

Producer: La Perla Del Priorat

Region: Priorat, Spain

Vintage: 2005

Varietal: 70% Grenache, 25% Carignan, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

Description: I've always been a fan of Spanish wines. So, when given an opportunity to try something new, I jumped at it. The 2005 Noster Inicial is a red wine blend, but the Grenache dominates. The Noster has vibrant notes of cherries with spice and tobacco. This is all layered over a refreshing minerality typical of wines from Priorat, Spain. With a 15.5% alcohol content, I was surprised when I tasted it. I was expecting a high octane wine. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the smooth and velvety soft tannins. This makes the wine very approachable and a good food wine. This one is worth a try. - Brandon

2005 La Perla Del Priorat – Noster Inicial is on deck for this week’s wine review.  This wine comes from  an area in Spain called Priorat (pree-ohr-aht).  Priorat, sometimes called Priorato, is known for its red wine production using the Grenache grape.  The Noster Inicial being reviewed is a good example of the complexity and finesse Priorat wines are known for in the wine world today.
